Lisa understands pain management. She has a sensitivity that allows her to find the root of pain and to relieve it. For Lisa it is like detective work, reading the body and learning a client's history are roadmaps that guide her to the source of pain. She unravels the layers of the physical body, the emotional body, and the trauma body. She is able to get to the root; the when, where and why of her client’s unique pain and offer specific, targeted relief.

Lisa used to massage her father’s feet when she was little. Much later in life she found a mole on him that turned out to be cancerous. He developed lymphedema due to removal of his Lymph nodes. Lisa felt powerless to help him which inspired her to specialize in the very delicate technique of Lymphedema massage. Within three months of his passing Lisa enrolled in the necessary courses to receive her certificate. Since his passing Lisa’s father has continued to intuitively inform and guide her efforts to help others in need of this truly specialized treatment.

Lisa is one of only two therapists certified in Lymphedema massage in Albuquerque

Lisa's Background and Education

Lisa is a single mom of two grown children. She credits her children with making her who she is today, caring, independent and safety oriented. Lisa has always been gifted with an intuitive ‘touch’. She believes it comes from her grandmother Matteson, who used gentle touch to put Lisa to sleep as a little girl.

Lisa Matteson was born in Glendale California and grew up in a family of lawyers and entertainment industry professionals including magicians, directors and actors. When she was in High School she wanted to try out for the Sports Mascot position. When she went for the interview, she realized that she had made a mistake and showed up for the Student Athletic Trainer interview instead. She went through with the interview anyway and was hired. This is how massage found Lisa and has shaped the course of her life ever since.

The Physical Therapist that she worked for was also the Lead Physical Therapist for the 1984 Olympics. Young Lisa thrived around all the professional athletes and drank in the energy of the Olympic Games. When she applied for the Youth Track and Field position she was asked to massage Olympic runner Edwin Moses who won a gold medal in the 1984 400m hurdles. She did, and she got the job. She was 16 years old.

Lisa moved to South Carolina where she worked as a lifeguard, volunteer firefighter and an Emergency Medical Technician. In New Jersey she received her EMTI title, or Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician.

As a single mother of two, Lisa decided to move to New Mexico so she and her children could be closer to their grandmother who had land and horses in Albuquerque’s North Valley. Lisa worked as a medical assistant for an Ear Nose and Throat Doctor and for various nursing agencies.

In 2007 Lisa received her certificate from the Universal Therapeutic Massage school of Albuquerque, New Mexico. And started her business, Professional Massage.

In 2014, Lisa experienced a back injury that inspired her to go back to school for Medical Massage. She wanted to understand more about pathology, medications, and the deeper intricacies of her craft as it applies to patients in sensitive medical situations.

2015 Norton School of Lymphatic therapy to earn my Lymphedema certificate.

2020 Medical coding through CNM.
